JACKIE IN POST WAR 1945 - 1950
He returned from war
about 6 weeks before his 20th birthday. He suffered badly from
war neurasthenia (war nerves) and malaria. Within short time, he was under
psychiatric treatment
and
was advised to purchase land in the hills area east of Perth and to commune with
nature.
This he eventually did in 1947 and soon after, began to build his home
in the Kalamunda bush as
the town's 666th registered resident. He turned his hand to various job activities such as importing,
exporting, buying and selling cars, journalism as well as teaching music.
And so began the life of a happy and dedicated workaholic.
