BRIEF SUMMARY IN PHOTOGRAPHS
I was born at the Home of Good Shepherd in Leederville Perth on 2 July 1949.
MY PARENTS
Jackie met Bette Groves
through his dance band activities in 1948. The young Bette sung
with the band and later made a couple of recordings; 'I'll See You In My Dreams'
and 'Fishing For The Moon'.
They married in 1949. By 1951, their marriage was over.
EARLY LIFE
I grew up in outer
metropolitan Perth in the pristine bush of Kalamunda amongst nature's abundance
where life was free and totally natural.
Growing up in the bush with Jackie Sue was simple as were his rules;
* never forget, the bush is yours to love and respect so become part of it
* never go into the bush without knowing how to get back exactly the same way you went in
* never climb a tree without knowing how to get down exactly the same way
* never go outside my voice range. When I call, you come ... NOW !
* never violate nature. It is more powerful than you. It can kick your backside very severely
* never ever give up on achieving goals - EVER!!
The consequences for being caught out of
line with any of the above was a swift belting if telling the truth.
If I was found to be lying, there was a swift belting followed by another good
belting for lying. It rarely happened
more than once for the same violation because I learned fast.
Jackie had another simple rule. If he
told me to do something, I learned very quickly that he told me once. If I
didn't do it
immediately, he barked at me. If I still hadn't done as I was told, I copped a
dam good belting.
I found it to be extremely good incentive.
With Jackie Wong, I learned very quickly how to behave. This was my normality
and I had a very close relationship with
a man who was not only a great Dad, he was also a dam good Mum (if you can
understand that).
As kids we all knew the meaning of;
"Children should be seen and not heard.
In Russia, if you're seen, you're never heard of again"
